“…Her melodies are fantastic, the arrangements sound fresh and yet the listener feels connected to old-school roots.” – Higher Plain Music

Anna Anise is a warm summer breeze of feel-good folk, captivating audiences with her lyrical storytelling and glorious melodies. Anna’s passion for community through music is evident in her infectious energy onstage and ability to bring a whole room together with a hooky chorus. The Celtic influence is evident in Anna’s full-bodied guitar tunings and regular fiddle accompaniment, which stems from her Cornish roots.

Anna fell in love with folk music growing up in Cornwall and Devon, where she picked up a guitar aged 11 and never looked back. Having been making up songs in the playground since before she could remember, this was the accompaniment she had been waiting for to complete all those melodies in her head. From age 14 Anna was performing regularly around Plymouth and building up a library of self-penned songs, but it was attending her first music festival at the age of 16 that set her on a path of creativity and community. Anna went on to move through the firesides of South West festivals, honing her sound and chasing her path of re-working traditional folk tunes by folding them into effervescent narratives.

Anna studied music at BIMM Bristol, where she graduated with a first class honors degree in songwriting. During this time she was no stranger to some of Bristol’s best venues including Thekla, The Trinity Centre, The Fleece and Lost Horizon. She completed her first album project as a collaboration with fellow students and start-up DIY label Cuculi Records. Shortly after Anna self-produced a three track EP which saw her signature layered harmonies and catchy hooks come to the forefront. In May 2023 Anna released her most developed sound yet, with the swelling heartfelt single Overexposed.

When she’s not performing Anna runs CHORUS, a songwriting workshops and events based CIC supporting women and non-binary musicians to build their confidence in co-writing. Her passion for spearheading projects and building community informs and inspires her writing.

Now based in South Devon, Anna has been busy making her mark on the local music scene and lining up gigs and festivals for this coming year. Follow Anna on instagram to stay up to date with upcoming performances and community projects!
