SHRUB is a wildly original alt-pop quintet from Sheffield & Bristol, with lush vocal harmonies underscored by jangly electric guitar, hazy synths, gleeful sax and infectious drum grooves. Their songs take the listener on a tour of unpredictable topics, from the vastness of post-apocalyptic galaxies to the profound comfort of a fruit bowl bursting with colour. This is one of their first shows outside Sheffield, and we’re thrilled to welcome them to Bristol.
Local alt-pop duo Kai & Hollis will open the night, bringing us their usual cocktail of pithy, tender, cynical songs describing the human experience as they see it.
16 July: Balladeste + Betty Blight

On Thurs 16 July, Cuculi Presents an evening with Balladeste in the Greenbank. Violinist Preetha Narayanan and cellist Tara Franks have spent a decade developing a distinctive compositional voice that explores the rich sound world between their instruments. Drawing on contemporary minimalism, Indian classical music and English folk traditions, Balladeste create musical narratives that feel both ancient and contemporary, vibrant and contemplative.

On Thurs 17 Sept, Cuculi presents Troyka Mala & JOW in a double bill of locally grown musical excellence upstairs at The Greenbank.
Troyka Mala is a chamber-folk/post-classical trio with Sophie Wilsdon (clarinet & vocals), Naomi Hill (violin & vocals) and Liam O’Connell (double bass & vocals), initially born as an offshoot of Balkan band Troyka but now firmly established as a distinctive experimental voice on their own terms in the Bristol music scene. JOW is the highly original duo of Pete Judge (trumpet) & James Gow (cello), whose playful compositions find the two expert players swapping roles as their intertwining melodies create a constant element of surprise.
